You’d be forgiven to wonder what became of CW Seed’s animated Freedom Fighters: The Ray after its announcement a year ago, but the trailer is finally here and … oh boy. Meet Nazi Supergirl, Green Arrow and Flash as The Ray battles through Earth X in the new animated series.

Eyed for a fall premiere on CW Seed, the new series takes place on Earth X, described as “a parallel world where the Nazis won World War II and the New Reichsman rule over present day America.” Were that not a troubling enough premise for an animated CW DC series (and really, enough with alt-reality fascism, guys), the footage goes ahead and turns Flash, Arrow and Supergirl into Nazis, complete with SS-themed uniforms.

So reads the synopsis for Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which will also represent the title hero as a gay character, and cast his voice for a live-action debut:

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

Also present in the footage are Black Condor, Phantom Lady, and Red Tornado, but stay tuned for the latest on Freedom Fighters: The Ray, and what’s sure to be an awkward reunion should the character come to live-action.
