Whatever you make of FOX Bat-prequel Gotham, few would argue that series star Jada Pinkett Smith commits to her role as original gangster Fish Mooney. That commitment may have run out, however, as Smith doesn’t think she’ll return for Season 2 this fall.

“I don’t think so,” Smith told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan during an appearance on Live with Kelly & Michael.  “I signed for a year and the year’s up.” Granted, FOX might still extend an offer that convinces the actress to return, and no official comment has yet been given on her prediction.

Smith joined FOX’s Gotham by its pilot episode as nightclub owner and Oswald Cobblepot’s employer Fish Mooney, the only character of the cast not drawn from DC comic origins. Jada’s scenery-chewing Eartha Kitt-inspired performance often proves a highlight of the series, though Gotham has frequently struggled with finding storylines for the character, currently isolated on an island with Dr. Dulmacher.

We’re of the mind that Gotham should make a great many changes heading into Season 2, but would FOX be wise to keep Jada Pinkett Smith around? What might we see from the character going forward, if not the rest of Season 1?
