Gran Turismo 7 Could be Out as Early as Next YearLuke Brown |
Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 6 isn't even out yet, but the developer's already eying a release window for the first iteration to hit the PlayStation 4.
Speaking with Top Gear, Polyphony's Kazunori Yamauchi discussed the company's plans for Gran Turismo 7. "We don't want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7," Yamauchi said. "Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3's architecture, but of course the PS4's hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it".
Sony will be launching Gran Turismo 6 next month for the PlayStation 3, leaving the PlayStation 4 without a first-party racing game until whenever Drive Club arrives in 2014. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Xbox One launched today with Turn 10's Forza Motorsport 5 bringing racing to the next generation before Sony's big dog. Of course, Yamauchi doesn't fear the competition; he welcomes it. "We always respect our competition," he said. "The racing genre isn't really that big in its entirety, so I'm glad that everyone works hard to boost the genre as a whole."
We'll be eagerly awaiting GT7, but at least we'll have GT6 to keep us company while we wait.
