'Guardians of the Galaxy' Promo Art and First Looks Debut at the 2014 Toy FairNick Romano |
Marvel's ambitious undertaking, the "superhero space opera" 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' will release its first trailer this coming week, and you'll all finally see what we've been raving about since Comic-Con. But before the footage drops online, we were at attendance at Hasbro's 2014 Entertainment Brand Preview during the American International Toy Fair, which showcased the upcoming toy lines for 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' promo art and first looks at new characters.
To start, Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot) and Dave Bautista (Drax The Destroyer) all star as the intergalactic band of misfits in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' who must team up to take on the main villain, Ronan the Accuser. While we've already got an early look at the good guys, how about we check out what Ronan himself will look like.
'Pushing Daisies' and 'The Hobbit' star Lee Pace portrays Ronan the Accuser in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' and although we already received our first look at him (kind of) in LEGO form, here is a more accurately rendering in mini-figure form. Accompanying this baddie in the same line of figures is Korath, as played by Djimon Hounsou in the film version, and the presumably villainous soldiers known as Sakaaran Troopers (shown below).
In addition, we also have a more detailed look at Peter Quill's (Star-Lord's) ship, the Milano, where previously we only glimpsed it in the released concept art. Also featured in toy form are ships for Rocket Raccoon (named the Warbird) and the Nova Corps members (named Starblasters), as shown below.
Hasbro also previewed the action figures in the Marvel Legends Infinite Series, which was first revealed in the recently released poster. Though, during the presentation to the press, a rep revealed that the toy version of Drax will include a "major weapon" that he couldn't go into further detail about as it has a large part to play in the film. While we speculate about what said weapon could possibly be, we were distracted by animated figures and battle gear for Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon.
For those still uninitiated into the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' universe, here's the official plot line for the film:
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
The film will hit theaters on August 1, but until then, check out all the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' photos we snapped during the Hasbor preview at the American International Toy Fair below.
