We heard the first major piece of news to come from FX's Guillermo del Toro adaptation of vampire novel series 'The Strain' the other day, namely that 'House of Cards' breakout Corey Stoll would take the leading role. Now, as the series moves closer to pilot production, former 'LOST' showrunner Carlton Cuse has cast his first island alum, tasking Kevin Durand (Martin Keamy!) with a major new role. Get a taste of 'The Strain' inside!

Though yet to receive an official series order, we're certainly keeping an eye on FX's adaptation of Guillermo del Toro's popular vampire novel series 'The Strain,' based on the 2009 books from del Toro and author Michael Hogan. Where yesterday 'House of Cards' star Corey Stoll was announced for the leading researcher role, today 'LOST's' Kevin Durand joins the cast as Ukrainian-American rat exterminator Vasily Fet, who enthusiastically joins the war against the vampires under the mentorship of a wise vampire hunter from Eastern Europe.

For those unfamiliar with the 2009 trilogy, ‘The Strain’ follows Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather (Stoll), a CDC operative who investigates a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself. ‘The Strain’ was followed by two sequel novels ‘The Fall’ and ‘The Night Eternal.’

Former ‘LOST’ and current ‘Bates Motel‘ showrunner Carlton Cuse will also helm FX’s adaptation, from a screenplay by del Toro and novel co-writer Michael Hogan. Hogan and Gary Ungar will also serve as executive producers

Well, what say you? Are you excited to see a live-action adaptation of ‘The Strain,’ now that Kevin Durand has joined? Who else should join as the pilot moves forward? Tell us what you want to see from ‘The Strain’ in the comments!
