HBO may have devoted this past Sunday to its big 'Boardwalk Empire' season 4 sendoff "Farewell Daddy Blues," though upcoming 2014 miniseries 'True Detective' made a valiant attempt to steal the show with its latest full length trailer. Borrowing a page or two from '28 Days Later,' are you ready for the moodiest preview yet of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey's new series?

Narrated mostly in flashback from McConaughey's elder character Rustin Cohle, the new 'True Detective' trailer borrows the iconic '28 Days Later' theme music to place a grittier spin on its New Orleans underbelly visual, bringing its tale of murder and corruption to a "slow boil."

HBO’s ‘True Detective’ follows investigators Rustin Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives intertwine during a 17-year hunt for a Louisiana serial killer. Their investigation of a gruesome 1995 murder cuts through testimony from the detectives in 2012, after the case re-opens. The eight-episode series also stars Shea Whigham (‘Boardwalk Empire‘), Kevin Dunn (‘Veep‘), Michelle Monaghan (‘Open‘), Alexandra Daddario (‘Percy Jackson‘) and Elizabeth Reaser (‘Twilight‘).

We're anxious to take a look at the new series helmed by director Cary Fukunaga, not merely for our nostalgia of the Infected of course, but what say you? Does the latest 'True Detective' trailer have you any more interested to check out the new series premiering January 12, 2014 on HBO?
