Sometime in June, we first heard that Lord and Miller would develop a new “live-action / animation hybrid” series for FOX, with a creative team and partial cast already in place. Now, SNL alum Jason Sudeikis has signed on as the titular animated Barbarian for Son of Zorn, along with a host of others for the bizarre project.

Apparently renamed from Son of Zahn, Son of Zorn follows an animated Barbarian father (Sudeikis) who comes home for the first time in 10 years to live-action ex-wife Edie (now cast with Cheryl Hines) and son Alan (21 Jump Street star Johnny Pemberton). He finds that reconnecting with his family, struggling through his mundane office job and dealing with the banality of suburban life is much harder than waging actual war in his distant, animated world.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Son of Zorn has also added fellow SNL alum Tim Meadows as Edie’s live-in boyfriend and Always Sunny star Artemis Pebdani as Zorn’s boss. Shooting an 8-10 minute pilot presentation later on this summer, the series has already selected Wilfred alum Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne to serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, alongside Seth Cohen (Workaholics, Drunk History).

It’s not getting any easier to make heads or tails of the series, what with descriptions like “Roger Rabbit meets Conan the Barbarian,” but with Jason Sudeikis in the (vocal) lead, might Son of Zorn stand a chance?
