Whenever The Defenders premieres, almost two years will have passed since Marvel and Netflix first introduced us to Jessica Jones. We’ve known for some time that Krysten Ritter’s hard-edged P.I. won’t formally return in her own series until 2018, but reports suggest Season 2 production is finally gearing up in New York.

Word from On Location Vacations initially spurred reports that Jessica Jones Season 2 had officially begun production on West 101st St and Broadway (the exterior of Jessica’s building), but an update from the site now places the production start date as next Monday, April 10. The timing would certainly make sense, as Ritter previously indicated The Defenders and Jessica Jones Season 2 would shoot back-to-back.

We reached out to Marvel and Netflix for confirmation of the impending production, though they declined to comment.

Elsewhere of Jessica Jones Season 2, we know that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed an all-female director lineup for the next 13 episodes, with True Blood and Supernatural writer Raelle Tucker joining Season 2 to replace executive producer Liz Friedman. Rosenberg has also previously spoken to the possibility of featuring multiple villains, to fill the void left by David Tennant’s Kilgrave.

We’re still awaiting a formal premiere date for The Defenders, but stay tuned for more on Jessica Jones Season 2 as production reportedly gets underway next week.
