The title of Judy Greer’s directorial debut could very well serve as a headline for Judy Greer making her directorial debut. Following a year in which the excellent actress was annoyingly sidelined with thankless roles in films like Jurassic World and Ant-Man, Greer is getting behind the camera to make her own movie — a dramedy starring Common and Allison Janney.

THR reports that Greer will make her directorial debut with A Happening of Monumental Proportions, with rapper / actor Common and character actress Allison Janney already signed on to star. The film will be produced by filmmaking brothers Chris and Paul Weitz, along with Andrew Miano via their Depth of Field banner, which most recently released the Lily Tomlin dramedy Grandma.

A Happening of Monumental Proportions is based on a Nicholl Fellowship semi-finalist screenplay from the Sundance Writer’s Lab. The story takes place over the course of one day at a school in Los Angeles, in which the characters find themselves mixed up in a plot of “sex, lies and dead bodies.”

Miano reveals that Greer actually came to Depth of Field with the screenplay and offered to direct the project herself.

Common is currently filming John Wick 2 with Keanu Reeves, in which he plays the bodyguard to a formidable crime boss. He also stars in next year’s Suicide Squad. Janney was recently cast in Tate Taylor’s adaptation of the best-selling novel The Girl on the Train, and appears next in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
