Director M. Night Shyamalan's most recent film venture, 'After Earth,' may have arguably bombed harder than 'The Last Airbender,' but we're interested to see what the genre director will bring to TV for FOX's upcoming limited series 'Wayward Pines.' After the major casting of Matt Dillon, Carla Gugino has joined the event series in a leading role, but as whom?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gugino will take the role of Kate Hewson, Ethan's (Dillon) ex-Secret Service partner and a resident of Wayward Pines. The character is described as smart, capable, loyal, fiery, blunt and fearless, while the relationship that Kate and Ethan previously shared simmers below the surface of their current dynamic.

Starring Dillon and Oscar-winner Melissa Leo, based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch and written by ‘The Playboy Club’'s Chad Hodge, ‘Wayward Pines’ follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke as he travels to Wayward Pines, Idaho on a mission to find two missing federal agents. The series is said to be in the vein of ‘Twin Peaks.’

We'll keep our ear to the ground for the latest news of M. Night Shyamalan's first major TV project, but in the meantime, what say you? Will you take a trip to 'Wayward Pines' in 2014?
