Marvel TV Plans Revealed: 'Daredevil,' 'Jessica Jones,' 'Iron Fist' and 'Luke Cage' to Defend Netflix!Kevin Fitzpatrick |
Remember that mysterious four-series and a miniseries deal that Marvel TV had supposedly been working on a few weeks back? Well, forget all about an 'Agent Carter' spinoff to follow 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' it seems the Marvel heroes of Hell's Kitchen will finally get their due, as Netflix will host four new original live-action series for 'Daredevil,' 'Jessica Jones,' 'Iron Fist' and 'Luke Cage,' before an epic 'The Defenders' miniseries event!
Netflix and Marvel revealed the landmark event this morning, adding that the first 'Daredevil' series would arrive on Netflix in 2015, followed swiftly by 13-episode runs for Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The four series will then lead into "a culminating Marvel's 'The Defenders' miniseries event that reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters."
"This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty," said Alan Fine, president of Marvel Entertainment. "This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure."
Similarly, Netflix chimed in on the landmark deal:
Marvel’s movies, such as 'Iron Man' and 'Marvel’s The Avengers,' are huge favorites on our service around the world. Like Disney, Marvel is a known and loved brand that travels. With 'House of Cards' and our other original series, we have pioneered new approaches to storytelling and to global distribution and we're thrilled to be working with Disney and Marvel to take our brand of television to new levels with a creative project of this magnitude.
We're still trying to process the insanity of the announcement, but what say you? Can you believe 'Daredevil,' 'Jessica Jones,' 'Iron Fist' and 'Luke Cage' have all landed their own series on Netflix, followed by an 'Avengers'-style teamup of 'The Defenders'?
