It’s been a long time coming, but MTV has finally donned its mask and raised a knife to stab out its attempt at a Scream TV series. The Kevin Williamson slasher classic may look and feel pretty different by its first MTV trailers, but will we all Scream for the new series premiere this summer?

Given the unique flavor of the original films and their meta-pop culture dissection of horror tropes, it’s hard to get a handle on MTV’s new rendition, even by its first three trailers. There’s the requisite sexy teens lavishly partying and  living up to the show’s title, but thus far the new horror series seems more about flaunting its famous title than capturing anything familiar.

Ditching the iconic “Ghostface” mask (for now), the Scream TV series sees Jamie Travis directing scripts from Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin, with Jill Blotevogel serving as showrunner, and Wes Craven, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad executive producing. The series stars Arrow alum Bex Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo, Connor Weil and Joel Gretsch, and centers around a viral video that brings with it dire consequences for all involved.

Scream all you want by the first, second and third trailers above and below, but will MTV manage to reinvigorate the meta-horror franchise by its June 30 premiere? Are some bits of 90's nostalgia best left where they came from?
