Huh. Alright then. Earlier today we learned a bit more about why NBC seems to have decided not to move forward on the Bryan Fuller-helmed 'Munsters' reboot 'Mockingbird Lane,' reportedly owing to disagreements over just how quirky and "Fuller" the world outside the actual 'Munsters' should be. Given 'Hannibal's' latest round of castings, including typically comedic performer and 'SNL' vet Molly Shannon, might Hannibal Lecter's world be in for the same treatment?

Hannibal Lecter doesn't traditionally seem to be the laughing type, but he might have a difficult time resisting 'Saturday Night Live' veteran Molly Shannon's "Mary-Katherine Gallagher" charm. TVLine reports that the legendary funnylady (who has also appearared in 'Glee,' 'Up All Night' and 'The Middle') has been cast for a single, but potentially recurring appearance in NBC's forthcoming Thomas Harris prequel 'Hannibal.'

The network didn't release any details of Shannon's character, but the casting does seem to fit 'Hannibal's' quirky roster of stars, including 'Kids in the Hall's' Scott Thompson and several 'Wonderfalls' alum, one of whom will actually reprise her character from that series.

To date, ‘Hannibal’ features ‘Pushing Daisies’ vet Ellen Greene, ‘Wonderfalls’ stars Chelan Simmons and Lara Jean Chorostecki as a female interpretation of ‘Red Dragon’ character Freddy Lounds, and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford. Set in the early days of Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen)’s partnership, Fuller’s envisioned series is “a love story” told across at least seven seasons. He also specified the likelihood that the third or so season would cover the story of Thomas Harris’ novel ‘Red Dragon.’

What say you? Who do you think Molly Shannon could play when 'Hannibal' debuts at mid-season? Are you interested to check out the new series?
