The economics of TV don't always make perfect sense.  For instance, critically-adored series like 'Breaking Bad' might break down over contract disputes, and be forced to end with truncated, and unusually structured fifth seasons, while shows like 'Supernatural' that intended only to go for five seasons run for a full 10 years.  Provided The CW opts for a ninth, and 10th season of 'Supernatural,' guess who's coming back!

Speaking at this past weekend's New Jersey 'Supernatural' event, series star Jared Padalecki had good news for fans of the series, confirming that both he and Jensen Ackles have agreed to do a ninth and 10th season of the long-running sci-fi series.  Currently, the show is in the midst of shooting its eighth season, though most talks suggest a long-term goal of 10 seasons.

Current series show-runner Jeremy Carver revealed to Screen Rant at Comic-Con 2012 that the eighth season (debuting Wednesdays this fall) would set in motion a plan to carry through to the end of a 10th season, matching the duration of The CW’s other WB-era hold-over ‘Smallville.’  Says Carver:

We really are building some foundation for a storyline that can carry us on for at least a few more years. There’s a note card in my office that says “The end of season 10” right there.

I have that note card; that note card exists in fantasy right now. I don’t know if there’s going to be a season 10 but, you know, that’s what keeps me getting up in the morning.

To date, we’ve learned that ‘Supernatural’ season 8 will see the return of DJ Qualls’ eccentric  hunter Garth, as well as 'Futurama’ voice Lauren Tom.  Elsewhere, ‘Battlestar Galactica’ veteran Ty Olsson will appear in an important recurring role, that of a vampire named “Benny,” whom Dean meets during his stay in purgatory and ultimately helps him escape from said predicament.  Liane Balaban (‘Alphas,’ ‘Covert Affairs’) will appear as Sam’s new love interest Amelia, developed in the time the brothers spent separated, but ended by the season premiere.

What say you?  Are you excited to see that Jared and Jensen are sticking with 'Supernatural' all the way to a potential season 10 end?  Where would you like to see the series go from here?  Sound off in the comments below!
