'Supernatural' fans were given a nifty bonus last week when The CW moved the premiere up a full week to October 8, but why stop there? The latest spoilery details on Sam and Dean Winchester's season 9 adventures reveal yet another trip to the past, and and epic battle for Dean, once the brothers finally manage to get past those thousands of angels stranded on Earth by season 8 finale "Sacrifice."

New intel from Entertainment Weekly corroborates showrunner Jeremy Carver's earlier words, namely that the Men of Letters will continue to remain a strong focus and a source of both history and mythology. Though the Winchesters themselves won't take the trip (that we know of), at least one episode will travel to 1935 to meet the first two Men of Letters staffing Sam and Dean's secret base!

That said, Sam and Dean won't be getting into more standalone episodes for at least the first three installments, still dealing with the angels recently banished to Earth, among them Castiel, and the headache of keeping a captive Crowley. At least one episode of the coming run will ease back on the throttle for a few laughs, as executive producer Robert Singer previewed a “Doctor Dean-little" scenario that sees the hunter able to commune with animals. “One of the highlights being Dean getting into a brawl with a pigeon,” Carver explained. “It’s a logical progression from fairies to pigeons.”

Meanwhile, ‘Supernatural’ season 9 will feature the return of longtime series star Jim Beaver as his character Bobby Singer in an unknown capacity, while Felicia Day‘s Charlie Bradbury has been announced to pop up as well. Carver and Singer had earlier previewed the CW drama’s ninth year, particularly the expanded role angels would play in the mythology going forward, and a secret that Dean will be keeping from Sam.

So, what do we think? Is 'Supernatural' up to its old tricks in season 9? Will the upcoming spinoff change anything about the series going forward? Watch the Comic-Con recap below, and tell us what you want to see from 'Supernatural' season 9 in the comments!
