Sylvester Stallone Pretty Much Confirmed Mel Gibson for 'Expendables 3'

Sylvester Stallone has been busy recruiting a new team of actors for 'The Expendables 3,' all the while keeping fans updated on the latest happenings via Twitter. Now that the film has a director, Patrick Hughes ('Red Hill'), and a handful of new and returning stars have been confirmed to team up, what about this rumor that Mel Gibson will be playing the villain? Well, it seems he's on board too!

Though the news was only a rumor when it first hit, it now has a firmer footing. Sylvester Stallone's exact words on Twitter:

 

By Mad Max, Sly is referring to Mel Gibson's iconic role in the film franchise of the same name from director George Miller, who is currently revving up for the release of 'Mad Max: Fury Road' starring Tom Hardy. And, of course, Barney Ross refers to Sly's own character in 'The Expendables.' So it does indeed sound as if Gibson is locked down.

'The Expendables 3' is currently scheduled for release on August 15, 2014, and stars essentially everyone in the history of action movies. Some of the "new blood" Sly was referring to way back when reportedly includes Jackie ChanWesley SnipesNicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich.
