We were disappointed, if not altogether unsurprised, to learn that FX's 'Wilfred' would make the fourth season its last with a final run on FXX, though it seems the Elijah Wood-and Jason Gann-adapted comedy will at least go out barking. Check out a first look at 'Wilfred' season 4 as Ryan's talking dog pal announces that the end is nigh!
'Open Windows' stars Elijah Wood as Nick, the nerdy but affable web master of a site dedicated to fictional superstar actress Jill Goddard (former porn star-turned-actress Sasha Grey). When Jill cancels the dinner Nick won with her in a contest, a mysterious hacker named Chord allows Nick the opportunity to spy on Jill and play a little game that quickly turns dangerous and veers into an evening filled with myriad plot twists in this thriller from festival favorite director Nacho Vigalondo. Unfortunately, the film is a bit too ambitious and convoluted from the director, who's been admired for his deft sci-fi indies in the past.
It starts with a screeching chicken and a dimly lit poultry farm and the kind of stomach-turning opening credits sequence that makes a pretty solid argument for the merits of vegetarianism. Set in the apparently poultry-centric small town of Fort Chicken (“Chick It Out!”), Jonathan Miliott and Cary Murnion’s ‘Cooties’ (mostly) cleverly combines bits of old school horror, killer kid flicks, and deadpan humor for its amusing and gory tale of kids gone totally wild. And no, all the circles and dots in the world can’t save you from these rabid elementary schoolers, because no schoolyard tricks will satiate their hunger.
As far as one-room thrillers go, you don't get much crazier or ambitious than 'Grand Piano,' which sees Elijah Wood spending the bulk of the running time sitting behind the titular instrument. If you're curious how such a thing is possible, the new trailer for the film should fill in some blanks. You see, this isn't just a movie about a disgraced master pianist (Wood) making his grand comeback, this is a movie about a disgraced master pianist making his grand comeback while a sniper (John Cusack) threatens to kill him if he misses a single note.
In 1998, director Robert Rodriguez released the high school horror film 'The Faculty.' Written by 'Scream' scribe Kevin Williamson, the film follows a group of mismatched high school students who must overcome their differences and band together when mysterious alien parasites take over the bodies of their peers and teachers. Fifteen years later, we take a look back at the awesome ensemble cast of the film and see what they're up to now.
Though FX had initially seemed confident in FX dramedy 'Wilfred''s third season, the significantly lower ratings have effectively put the series down for good. The cable network has announced that the surreal Elijah Wood-Jason Gann comedy will move to FXX for shortened final season in 2014, wrapping up its run altogether after four years.
Renowned pianist Tom Selznick (Elijah Wood) comes out of retirement for one night only to play a classical concert in honor of his late mentor. What is already a pressure-filled evening for the stage fright-stricken musician quickly devolves into a nightmare when a mysterious man threatens to murder Selznick's wife if he makes a single mistake. Drawing inspiration from Hitchcock, De Palma and Italian horror, 'Grand Piano' is a surprisingly fun and snappy little thriller.
'A Clockwork Orange,' 'Last Tango in Paris,' 'Requiem For A Dream,' 'Enter the Void.' These are just a few fantastic movies that use shocking or disturbing imagery and totally earn it. Edit out the brutality or the frank nudity and you don't have the same movie.
Franck Khalfoun's 'Maniac,' like a pipsqueak runt in the back of the class shouting, "me, too! me too!" would no doubt claim its use of sickening gore and first-person perspective isn't an exercise in perversity, but a bold and daring test to see how far one can push an audience, and a springboard for conversation about violence towards women.
Don't believe it for a second.
While there's no telling how different 'Wilfred' season 3 could feel now that showrunner David Zuckerman has left the series, we're eagerly awaiting the latest demented misadventures of Ryan and his imaginary pal. FX has officially set a June 20 premiere date with back to back episodes, and a number of new guest stars, so what other bones will FX throw 'Wilfred' fans this year?
Now that 'Justified' season 4 has come to a close and FX has announced its upcoming slate for the forseeable future, 'Wilfred' is starting to come out of the woodwork. The third season of the FX dramedy has yet to set an official premiere under new showrunners Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne, but recent castings and the latest batch of teasers from the acclaimed series all but assure 'Wilfred' will soon heel.
