And so, it finally happened. A full 13 years after 'Game of Thrones' creator George R.R. Martin published the third of his series "A Storm of Swords," HBO finally reached the "Red Wedding" event that drove producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to pursue the series in the first place. As with every new season of 'Game of Thrones,' HBO's adaptation will introduce a wealth of new characters in the upcoming fourth run, some of which were scheduled to arrive earlier but were left out for logistical reasons. Yet, as we prepare for the epic climax of season 3's final episodes, series creator George R.R. Martin has confirmed three major characters we'll be meeting in 'Game of Thrones' season 4!

As fans of both George R.R. Martin's 'Game of Thrones' novels and the HBO series adapting them well know, the prolific author's lengthy novels have expanded beyond the reach of a single HBO season, already plotting seasons 3 and 4 to cover the third book, with similar patterns to follow. Might HBO have to cut out entire novels, however, to bring their version to a plausible (and cost-effective) end? One producer says we'll have less 'Game of Thrones' in our futures than we might expect!

Like 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' before it, very often book to film-adaptations begin to grow increasingly disparate when directors reach the longer, meatier entries of the series. Such will prove the case with 'Game of Thrones' season 3, which adapts roughly half of series creator George R.R. Martin's novel "A Storm of Swords," incorporating a few elements from its sequel as well, but will it be long before the story changes create bigger problems?
