You know the feeling. You're watching a movie and you're loving it. Like really loving it. You're thinking "Wow, I think I may actually be watching a really great movie!" And then it happens: a plot twist so dumb, so inane, so nonsensical that it sends the film into a tailspin that it simply cannot recover from. When th
Hot off the heels of Pi Day, ScreenCrush and GuySpeed are partnering up for a 'Life of Pi' contest! We're giving away one Blu-ray copy of Ang Lee's Oscar-nominated film, which also earned him Best Director.
Ang Lee certainly has the world at his feet after picking up a second Best Director win at the 84th annual Oscars for his adaptation of 'Life of Pi,' but his next project will prove a bit closer to home, so to speak. Lee will next take his directing talents to TV to direct the pilot episode of FX's buzz-worthy drama 'Tyrant,' developed by 'Homeland' producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, but what attracted Lee to the project? Get the inside scoop on 'Tyrant' inside!
'Life of Pi' won the 2013 Oscar for Best Cinematography with director of photography Claudio Miranda taking home the Academy Award for his work. The win was mildly controversial since a) Roger Deakins was again denied an Oscar for his beautiful work on 'Skyfall' and b) 'Life of Pi' was largely constructed in the digital space (the film also took home the Best Visual Effects Oscar). Any existing debate over the 'Life of Pi' win took a big leap forward this morning when veteran cinematographer Christopher Doyle spoke out against the Oscar saying, "it’s a f---ing insult to cinematography." And he was only getting started...
If you followed the 2012 presidential election in any capacity, you've most likely heard of Nate Silver and his FiveThirtyEight blog. Even if you didn't specifically read his columns, you definitely heard about how he successfully predicted the outcome of the election in every single state using math and statistics. That's wildly impressive and Mr. Silver deserved all the acclaim that came his way. But now he has a much more difficult and demanding task ahead of him: predicting the 2013 Oscars!

The 2013 Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning when Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms took the press stage. Predictably, Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln,' Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty' and Tom Hooper's 'Les Miserables' all went home happy with their respective noms, but an unexpected surprise was the inclusion of 'Django Unchained' in a total of five categories, including one for Best Picture! But who are the film's main competitors?
Bill Westenhofer. Lubo Hristov. David Lauer. Gullaume Rocheron. Depending on your beliefs, you may or may not believe that God created the heavens and earth in seven days -- but I can say with some certainty that those men, a quartet of visual effects supervisors and designers (along with many other talented people) created the wondrous sights of 'Life of Pi.' It took them a lot more than seven days, though.
No matter what happens with the finished product, there is no denying the sheer ambition of Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi,' which is already stirring up some heated debate in critical circles. If nothing else, Lee has taken a seemingly impossible to adapt novel and brought it to the screen while pushing technical boundaries with his use of 3D while filming with a live tiger. Two new featurettes explore just how difficult this film must've been to make.
