HBO’s ‘The Wire’ Gets HD Remastering in 16x9 Format, Blu-ray Hits in 2015

Long renowned as one of HBO's crowning achievements in drama, David Simon's Baltimore crime saga 'The Wire' is getting a major facelift for 2015. Not only will the network premiere a high-def digital remastering of the series in late December, but digital and Blu-Ray updates of 'The Wire''s remastered set will be available after the new year.

"I don’t want to say ‘literary,’ because that’s a bad word," said Paul Thomas Anderson, attempting to describe the essence of Thomas Pynchon's 'Inherent Vice.' It's "beautifully written and, sort of, profound and deeply felt stuff mixed in with just the best fart jokes and poop jokes and silly songs and stuff that you could imagine." As he says, he was "trying to be as faithful to the feeling of the book as possible" in adapting it for the big screen.

We weren't altogether surprised to learn that HBO's 'Boardwalk Empire' would make the upcoming fifth season its last call, what with showrunner Terence Winter wanting to move onto his new series, though the latest on season 5 is more than a little sobering. If movies are “won” in the casting department, then Jose Padilha’s planned ‘RoboCop’ reboot currently has a 50-point lead on its competition. The director already has completed a number of inspired hires for his 2013 tentpole thriller, surrounding his lead actor, Joel Kinnaman (‘The Killing’) with supporting talents like Samuel L.
