The Annie Awards may not be as high profile as the Oscars, but they're always a fascinating look at a corner of the film and television world that is often overlooked during the awards season: animation. Considering the company's legacy, it feels appropriate that Disney dominated at the 40th Annual Annie Awards, with 'Wreck-it Ralph' and 'Paperman' going home as the big winners.

Was there ever any doubt that 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' was going to dominate this weekend? Heck, it's probably going to dominate next weekend, too. If audiences embrace it like they did 'Lord of the Rings,' it may even dominate the week after that. The big question now is whether or not Peter Jackson's return to Middle Earth will make a bunch of money, but exactly how many bunches.

There's no use beating around the bush here -- this was a pretty dull weekend at the box office. There was only one new release, but it was a dump that bombed rather spectacularly and the rest of the line-up is essentially the same as last week, with only a few titles shuffling around. It's the the quiet before the storm...the storm being 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,' which opens in a few days.

I can only take so much. I approach a family-friendly film with as open of a heart as possible, but when hit in the face with the shovel of whimsy and wonderment and wide-eyed optimism over and over and over again, eventually, I have to strike back. Sorry, 'Rise of the Guardians' - there's a lot that is admirable in you, particularly some of your design work, but you brought this on yourself.

One this year's big holiday films is 'Rise of the Guardians,' which pits Santa Claus (voiced by Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and the Sandman against the slightly satanic Pitch (Jude Law), with Jack Frost (Chris Pine) the newest recruit to the good guy gang of fantasy figures. Now there's a new featurette that lets you get to know Jack Frost.
