'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' is opening internationally weeks before it hits the American market, which means that today offered the first tweets and reviews of the movie. And with a number of reports in it's fair to say the film, which stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan, is not being greeted with the same enthusiasm that 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' was, that's for sure.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
ScreenCrush’s Comic Strip is a weekly roundup of the hottest superhero movie/TV news items. From Marvel to DC and points in between, if it pertains to costumed comic book heroes, we’re covering it here, bringing you our expert analysis. This week, 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' officially reaches the "overwhelming" stage of its hype machine, 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' casts a bunch of new characters, and FOX unveils our first look at Jim Gordon in 'Gotham.'
While we're still a few weeks away from the debut of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' Sony has premiered another clip from the film, and this one dispenses with all the danger and villainous threats, instead focusing on something a little more lighthearted and fun. Spidey shows off his epic free fall and web-slinging skills in the latest bit of footage, giving us a respite from all the madness -- but don't worry, it's still a lot of action.
Saving the day, getting the girl, being a good guy -- it's all in a day's work for Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man. But as director Marc Webb notes in this new featurette for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' Peter's going to learn the hard way in the sequel that he can't have it all because "life doesn't work that way." Webb teases the famous storyline between Peter and girlfriend Gwen Stacy, as well as Spidey's greatest threat yet: the Sinister Six.
Since photos of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' set hit the web last year and depicted Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy wearing an all-too-familiar outfit to fans of the Spider-Man comics, we've been wondering what will happen in the film when Spidey's best gal gets mixed up in his drama with Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin. Our fears are not subdued upon the debut of new 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' pics, which don't bode well for Ms. Stacy.
It didn't come as much of a surprise when Sony revealed that there would be two more sequels following 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' in 2016 and 2018. What did come as a surprise was the announced spinoffs, which would delve even further into the Spider-Man universe. The most interesting of them is also the strangest: 'The Sinister Six,' a movie starring a roster of Spidey's deadliest enemies.
And according to new statements from Sony, the seeds for this film have been planted in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2.'
When Willem Dafoe played the Green Goblin back in 2002's 'Spider-Man,' hardcore Spidey fans were none too happy with his costume. The iconic villain is making a return in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' (and will now be played by 'Chronicle' star Dane DeHaan) and the new design couldn't be more different. Our best look yet at DeHaan in costume and make-up has arrived online, giving us a taste of what to expect from Spider-Man's arch nemesis.
Director Marc Webb has acknowledged that he's well aware of the problems that plagued the overstuffed 'Spider-Man 3,' but every trailer, TV spot and image from 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' shows off another new villain or character. We have no idea how everyone fits into the same movie, but at least they all look fairly cool. The latest images from the film give us another look at Jamie Foxx's Electro and our best look yet at Paul Giamatti's Rhino ... or at least the giant Rhino robot that he'll be piloting.
After a brief hiatus, ScreenCrush is back with the Comic Strip, a weekly roundup of the hottest superhero movie news items. From Marvel to DC and points in between, if it pertains to costumed comic book heroes, we’re covering it here, bringing you our expert analysis. This week, Marvel revealed the first exciting looks at 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' and new looks at 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' while DC and Warner Bros. TV are ready to unleash a 'Flash'y new slate of shows.
Director Marc Webb’s second high-flying and web-slinging adventure in the world of our friendly neighborhood webhead, the Andrew Garfield-starring ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ is set to zip into theaters on May 2, but both Webb and Sony Pictures are eager to show off what they’ve been working on. At a special event in New York City, Webb introduced a small crowd to a selection of extended scenes from the upcoming film, over 30 minutes of fresh footage that was served up in a bid to get audiences primed for the next entry in the recently rebooted franchise.
And guess what? The plan may have just worked. The three scenes that Webb showed off (and was eager to chat about afterwards) are exciting, vibrant, and incredibly dynamic. So, what did we learn from our giant early look at the next ‘Spider-Man’ film? Quite a bit, and nearly all of it incredibly exciting (even for fans who might not have been particularly enamored of Webb’s first outing). Beware, there are some spoilers ahead, though we’ve tried to limit them as best we can.
