A Haunted House

'A Haunted House 2' Review: A Live Blog

'A Haunted House 2' did not screen early for critics. On Thursday, I received an email from my editor suggesting that I pay to see 'A Haunted House 2' at a movie theater on Friday morning. I tried using the "but I haven’t seen the first ‘Haunted House'" excuse, but that seemed to have little to no impact on this request. Who knows? Maybe it’s hilarious? On Friday morning, I purchased a ticked for the 10:45 a.m. screening of 'A Haunted House 2.' While watching, I kept a running diary of the events that transpired. It was a fairly miserable experience. Here’s how all that went:

Just remember, folks, you all brought this on yourselves ...

You really only need to say one thing about the opening weekend of Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty': it made more in three days than 'The Hurt Locker' did in its entire run. 2013 is going to see a fascinating showdown between two movies that have a quietly complicated history. 'Scary Movie 5,' which arrives on April 12th, is the latest in a long-running horror movie parody series that was originally spearheaded by the Wayans brothers. Although the Wayans were removed from that franchise after the second film, Marlon Wayans has returned to the world of the horror spoof with 'A Haunted House,' a 'Paranormal Activity' riff that looks to be very much in line with the early 'Scary Movie' films. All of this is a very complicated way of saying that five clips from 'A Haunted House' have made their way online and that it looks like a direct challenger to the 'Scary Movie' throne...for better or worse.

Over a decade ago, Marlon Wayans co-wrote and starred in 'Scary Movie,' a horror movie parody that made a great deal of money and spawned a franchise that is somehow still trucking onward. Now, it looks like he's attempting to replicate that success with 'A Haunted House,' a riff on the incredibly popular 'Paranormal Activity' series.
