ABC is the latest of the broadcast networks to throw out their 2015-2016 schedules, and while few major upsets are in store, the network still had some surprising news. Will Castle or Grey’s Anatomy go on beyond their next seasons? And which of the freshman series will get an unexpected reboot?
Marvel fans the world over breathed a collective sigh of relief when ABC announced that Agent Carter would return for Season 2, but Peggy may yet have some big changes on the horizon. The ass-kicking period drama will again premiere sandwiched between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episodes, but will lift off for sunny Los Angeles and a Marvel-ous new threat.
Well, now this is something of a surprise atop last night’s renewal of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Marvel has apparently decided not to follow through with its Mockingbird-centric spinoff after all, despite weeks of development and negotiations.
The onslaught of Upfronts are officially upon us for 2015, and ABC got the major network ball rolling with good news for Agent Carter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Muppets. There’s plenty good and bad to go around however, as while Once Upon a Time, Fresh Off the Boat and the Shondaland series have been renewed, Forever and others won’t live to see additional seasons.
The renewals, pickups and cancellations are flying fast and furious at ABC, but Marvel fans have nothing but good news ahead. Not only will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. return for a Season 3 this fall, but fan-favorite Agent Carter will suit up for a second season in 2016!
The Muppets are indeed returning to TV, as ABC has formally announced a full series order for their upcoming season. Last we heard, the new Muppets series from Big Bang Theory creator Bill Prady was going to be more adult-oriented, presented “mockumentary” style, which seemed a bit odd since the beloved Jim Henson creations always sought to appeal to audiences of all ages anyway. But apparently this approach has paid off, as ABC is so thrilled with what they’ve seen from the new Muppets show already that they’re banking on the series to become a big hit. Also: Synergy.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. got stuck playing second fiddle to the Marvel movies last year, but with the Age of Ultron officially come and gone, the Avengers-adjacent ABC series has officially leaped forward to all-out Inhumans war. Find out who suffered the first "Scars" by our full review!
McDreamy may not be the only loss ABC viewers will suffer as the current TV season comes to a close. After four seasons, Emily VanCamp will finally have her Revenge put out on ice, now that ABC has officially pulled the plug on its soapy drama.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron won’t officially hit theaters until Friday, but regardless of what Joss Whedon says, Iron Man and his buddies have the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to thank for their next adventure. Tonight’s “The Dirty Half Dozen” staged a massive crossover that directly set up a pivotal sequence of the Avengers sequel, and brought back a fan-favorite to do it. Our full review!
