Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. surprised every Ghost Rider fan with the reveal behind Robbie Reyes first taking on the mantle of Vengeance, including a surprise cameo that went mysteriously unnamed. Now, stars Clark Gregg and Reyes himself, Gabriel Luna tip their hands toward the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider indeed having sped through “The Good Samaritan.”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely got Ghost Rider fans hot and bothered with news that the Spirit of Vengeance would blaze through Season 4, albeit as the more modern, four-wheeling Robbie Reyes version. Tonight’s “The Good Samaritan” revealed Reyes’ MCU origin, however, with a surprising cameo from one of the Rider’s previous hosts!

The moment Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. confirmed its intent to introduce the Robbie Reyes iteration of Ghost Rider, fans wondered what might become of an MCU Johnny Blaze. S.H.I.E.L.D. producers have explained their choice to eschew the more classic character, thought last night’s “Lockup” included a surprising easter egg that may preclude Blaze’s appearance.

It’s getting harder and harder to make a name for your show in broadcast TV, and even moderately successful adaptations like FOX’s Lethal Weapon continue to pave the way for more recognizable IP. Latest on the list is a sequel series of sorts to Will Smith and Gene Hackman’s 1998 Enemy of the State, with Jerry Bruckheimer onboard to produce.
