Adam Driver Doesn’t Want Any Trailers for ‘Episode 8’
Trailers are huge events these days. Just last weekend, The Fate of the Furious took over Times Square in New York City to play the highly anticipated trailer on 33 huge billboards at once. It seems like every new blockbuster has released a trailer in the last couple of weeks. But what if they stopped doing that? What if Star Wars, for example, refused to show any footage of the Episode VIII until you’re sitting there in the theater? Adam Driver wouldn’t complain.

Paramount hasn't been historically known for their baller moves, but when it comes to their bold anti-promotional campaign for Martin Scorsese's Silence, game must recognize game. Keeping a major awards horse almost entirely on the down-low until one month before its December 23 release is one thing; when that movie also happens to be a passion project decades in the making from what very well might be our greatest living filmmaker — American or otherwise — well, that's just showing off. A Martin Scorsese movie sells itself, and Paramount has now reminded the moviegoing public of why that is.

At this point in the year we’re getting closer to making Oscar predictions and finalizing our Top 10 lists, but there’s still a few highly-anticipated films that have yet to screen for critics. One of those is Martin Scorsese’s Silence, a religious epic that that director has managed to trim down to just under three hours – it sounds long now, but you’ll be thankful come Christmas when there’s an

Martin Scorsese has been peculiarly secretive about his long-brewing religious epic Silence. There have been no festival premieres, no advance screenings, not even a real trailer to speak of. Paramount talks a big game about an Oscar-qualifying limited release on December 23, but apart from a sizzle reel of upcoming films that the studio showed to select media types late last month, it’s been mostly rumors and hearsay. Whispers of Silence, if you will.

In a turn of events that gives evidence that maybe the world isn’t so terrible after all, Rooney Mara and Adam Driver are going to be starring in a movie together. They’ve both been on the up and up for a while, Mara giving incredible performances in dramas like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and last year’s Carol, and Driver ping-ponging back and forth between franchise and indie, as he’ll star in the next two Star Wars episodes and was also lauded for his a critically acclaimed performance in this year’s Paterson. The two have signed on to play lovers in Annette.

Martin Scorcese’s Silence, which pretty much everyone was completely unaware of until it announced a release date coming up later this year, has a mysterious plot, and a hugely talented cast. With Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield, and Adam Driver in starring roles, it would be very difficult for this movie to be a miss. We’ve seen stills of Neeson and Garfield so far, but Driver’s look has been kept under wraps — until today, when Paramount released a new still.

Adam Driver has been having a pretty good year so far, despite the fact that this year’s Star Wars movie won’t feature his Force Awakens character Kylo Ren. He appeared alongside Michael Shannon in Midnight Special earlier this spring, and is set to be in two movies coming out this winter: Martin Scorsese’s Silence, which just got it’s premiere date, and Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson, which just got its first trailer.

Okay, relax, it’s not what you think. The Force Awakens is still one of the most successful movies in box office history. The criticism, when there was any, shared a similar theme: it was way too similar to the very first Star Wars movie A New Hope. There’s even a shot-by-shot comparison video that details every location and scene the sequel borrowed from the original. A lot of people figured this was the fault of the studio, Disney wanting to play it safe rather than give J.J. Abrams his head so he could take the franchise in a new direction. And it’s true, there are so many callbacks to the original in The Force Awakens that at some point you just want to throw your hands up and yell “OKAY! We get it! This is a Star Wars movie!” Today, Adam Driver raised some eyebrows while talking about Episode 8 by drawing a comparison to The Empire Strikes Back, but not in the way you think.

The name is Bond…Bail Bond. At least that seems to be the case in these new photos from the set of Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky, which features a nearly unrecognizable Daniel Craig alongside a very recognizable Adam Driver. Both actors are sporting prison stripes in the pics, which also offer a glimpse at Riley Keough’s character. In addition to the set photos, a new report reveals that Sebastian Stan has joined the cast of what’s been described as a “hillbilly heist” movie.
