by Mike Sampson November 19, 2013 @ 1:45 PM
Edgar Wright is a busy man. His apocalyptic sci-fi comedy 'The World's End' hits DVD and Blu-ray today, loaded with an impressive lineup of special features (all curated by Wright himself). Not to mention, he's up very early, pulling double duty and talking to us while eating a quick breakfast, before heading Marvel's 'Ant-Man' production office to start what will begin a long process of making that superhero movie he's been patiently developing for over five years. It's the kind of workload that would make the more temperamental of his peers testy, but Wright is perpetually cheery and polite, even for a Brit.
Below, our chat about why it's important for him to have a great DVD and Blu-ray, his favorite 'World's End' scene that still makes him laugh and what it means to finally get to work on his Marvel movie.

Well, that was quick.
Just a few hours after word made its way to the internet that Marvel was looking at either Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Paul Rudd to star in 'Ant-Man,' Gordon-Levitt has squashed the rumors like an...well, you get the idea. Alright, the ball is in court now, Paul Rudd!

Though many of the biggest films of 2015 have chosen their potential release dates, few have filled up their casts, with many just offering casting rumors. The latest to tease its lead is Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man,' with the rumor being that Marvel is high on both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd.

'The World's End' Review

I'd call it something of a coup that 'The World's End' - sloppy drunk though its plotting may be - so well captures the melancholy essence of men accepting, with varying success, that somehow they got old. Even though Gary King (Simon Pegg) refuses to grow up, he's caught in an early-90s time warp, still listening to mixed tapes of Soup Dragons and Stone Roses and still thinks about his high school guidance counselor. When he spies a gaggle of young punks in his quiet hometown of Letchworth he sees them as a natural threat to his entire way of life.
While subtext, this emotional material "works" in 'The World's End,' mostly due to Pegg's striking performance - a dark turn from him that mixes the sad, antic clown of early Bill Murray with a dash of genuine self-destructive menace. Also, and this is a compliment, the character drama refuses to take a back seat to the lunacy driving the plot.

Edgar Wright Explains Why Ultron Was Never a Part of the 'Ant-Man' Movie

by Jacob Hall August 20, 2013 @ 11:20 AM
In Marvel comics canon, the villainous robot Ultron is the creation of scientist/superhero Hank Pym (AKA, Ant-Man). So many fans raised an eyebrow when it was revealed that 'Avengers: Age of Ultron would see the team facing down the villain months before Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' arrived in theaters (and, that Ant-Man wouldn't be a part of 'Avengers 2'). However, there's a very simple reason why Ultron is making his first cinematic appearance in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and not 'Ant-Man' -- Wright never intended for Pym's nemesis to be in the film in the first place.

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright reunited once again on the famed Hall H stage to kick off Friday's Comic-Con 2013 festivities with a panel presentation for 'The World's End.' Not only does the title fit well within the film's apocalyptic depictions, but it also marks the end of the trio's Cornetto trilogy (the first installments being 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz'). So what new bits did these funnymen have in store for us?
