Fox Planning a Shared Movie Universe For 'X-Men' and 'The Fantastic Four'

With Marvel building towards future 'Avengers' films, Warner Bros. building 'Batman vs. Superman' towards a 'Justice League' movie and Sony expanding 'The Amazing Spider-Man' universe, you knew it was only a matter of time before Fox announced some big plans for their superhero films. With 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' melding the two 'X-Men' franchises, now it looks like they're going to also combine the 'X-Men' films with the new 'Fantastic Four' reboot into one big universe.

Those looking to see some 'Fantastic Four' action on the big screen with 'Chronicle' director Josh Trank's upcoming reboot will have to wait a little bit longer. 20th Century Fox has shifted around its upcoming release slates, including those for 'Fantastic Four,' 'The Secret Service' and 'Assassin's Creed.'

The 'Fantastic Four' reboot may have gone through a tumultuous scripting process, with Simon Kinberg the latest writer brought in on the project, but with a March 2015 release looming, the cast will need to fall into place shortly if they're going to make the date. And now five new names (and two old ones) have been mentioned for the roles of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

Well, it looks like the 'Fantastic Four' reboot may not make that proposed March 6, 2015 release date. 'Chronicle' director Josh Trank's take on Marvel's first family of superheroes is currently undergoing a major rewrite from screenwriter Simon Kinberg, which makes us really wonder what the heck is going on behind the scenes of this movie.

We all know that Marvel is currently developing 'Ant-Man', 'Black Panther', 'Doctor Strange' and a few other properties for the next phase of their cinematic universe, but one character we haven't heard any updates on is Silver Surfer. So will we ever see the Surfer hop aboard his own movie? One guy in the know - Stan Lee - thinks so!
