Marvel’s Netflix Defenders debuted its official August premiere with curiously little fanfare, but as with the team-up miniseries itself, the real story lies beneath the surface. A new viral tie-in website touches on several ongoing Daredevil mysteries, also updating us on Luke Cage and more.

Even after the entirety of Marvel’s Iron Fist, we still didn’t know when The Defenders would assemble. Thankfully, a new official Defenders teaser has arrived, hinting at an August premiere for Marvel’s street-level heroes!

Whenever The Defenders premieres, almost two years will have passed since Marvel and Netflix first introduced us to Jessica Jones. We’ve known for some time that Krysten Ritter’s hard-edged P.I. won’t formally return in her own series until 2018, but reports suggest Season 2 production is finally gearing up in New York.

Even as Marvel’s Iron Fist finally completed the sequence of Netflix heroes that will bring us The Defenders team-up, certain fans will never give up hope that the four could join the larger collective of cinematic Avengers. Sadly, The Falcon is none-too-keen on such a crossover, as Anthony Mackie dismisses Marvel’s TV heroes as “different universes, different worlds.”

By now, you’ve probably binge-watched Jessica Jones, the second Marvel series from Netflix. But did you know the show was originally set up at ABC under a totally different title? The series began life as A.K.A. Jessica Jones? The comic it was based on, Alias, wouldn’t have worked as the title of the TV series because of the Jessica Garner spy show; eventually producers decided the “A.K.A.” part of the title was unnecessary and shortened the name to just Jessica Jones. There’s a nod to the original title in every episode, however; each episode title begins with “A.K.A.” – Episode 3 of Season 1, for example, is called “A.K.A. The already-streaming Marvel Netflix series have given us a taste of the four major superheroes paired up, but we’re nearing time for The Defenders to bring it all home. So it is, that Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist are all standing tall in a costume-happy first photo!

Our first looks at The Defenders haven’t shown us much in the way of actual team-ups from the different series, especially as some are unlikely to play well together. That said, Jessica Jones and Daredevil seem to be getting along swimmingly in new photos from the New York set, at least in-between takes.
