Eggs are great. Fried eggs, poached eggs, baked eggs in shakshuka, eggs on avocado toast, boiled eggs in ramen, deviled eggs; there’s so many things to love about eggs. But eggs can also be pretty terrible if they’re housing vicious creatures from a far-away planets intent on bursting out of your chest and murdering you. I’ll pass on those eggs.

We haven’t seen much from Alien: Covenant since the red band trailer dropped late last year and a few photos here and there. But today brings a brand new photo of the colony ship’s crew (and a guest cameo), which finds everyone smiley and free of danger.

Alien: Covenant will be the sixth Alien film released since Ridley Scott’s original 1979 movie (or eighth, if you count both Alien vs. Predator movies), and as such is the continuation of one of the longest-running franchises in film history. James Cameron, director of Aliens, recently spoke about his feelings on the series and revealed that he thinks it may have gone too far, although he does clarify that he’s down for whatever Ridley Scott wants to do.

The Korean supernatural horror movie The Wailing made waves last year as yet another fantastic K-horror by a talented director to make its way overseas, so its no wonder an American remake is being discussed. When the announcement was made, many rolled their eyes at the prospect, some wishing that Hollywood would just leave a good thing alone. But for those of us who are unsure about the idea, here’s some possibly good news: reports say that Ridley Scott’s production company is eyeing the rights.

Because terrifying us with xenomorphs onscreen just isn’t enough, Fox is now planning to create an Alien: Covenant virtual reality experience that’ll tie in with the movie and, I guess, scare users out of their minds. The project was announced at this week’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and is probably a much more exciting prospect than, say, a talking refrigerator.

It’s kind of strange, considering the genre’s popularity; interview anyone in the entertainment industry, and you’ll find that just about everyone not actively working on a superhero film considers them to be a pox on the cinema. Ridley Scott’s the latest talent to confess to super-fatigue, in a new interview with Digital Spy where he expresses a larger concern for the overall state of film art. 2016 was a humbling year for the Hollywood studio system, and one of its biggest names can’t help but take notice.

Space is terrifying; at this point, that much is beyond debate. All people do there is die! (And make game-changing scientific discoveries, sure, but at what cost?) Space tried to murder Sandra Bullock in Gravity, it came back for Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar, and that’s not even counting all the space-set films that are supposed to be horrifying. None moreso than Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece Alien, back in the news these days due to its upcoming sequel Alien: Covenant, the trailer for which made for a primo excuse to leave the dinner table and its various political arguments this Christmas night.

Watch as a sinister particle drifts into an android’s ear, cringe as a man leans over a slowly hatching alien egg, marvel at the sweeping, beautiful landscapes of a planet we all know is full of creatures that want to kill us! Oh, and I am never, ever taking a shower again.

Another day, and oh, what’s this, another Alien: Covenant teaser image — surprise, surprise. But there are a couple of things different about this one: For starters, it’s visually sleeker and more sparse than the others, and it may very well give us our first sneak peek at Michael Fassbender’s new synthetic, Walter. Or it might just be a promotional image for Fassbender’s new solo concert series.

At this point, every new image from Alien: Covenant is just another tick on the most passively annoying countdown clock — annoying because we have no idea how much time is left before the first official trailer finally arrives, but it has to be very soon by now. With the holiday weekend imminent, our money’s on sometime between tomorrow and Sunday, and it’s kind of fun to imagine watching a trailer for a new Alien movie first thing on Christmas morning as your family looks on in horror — especially if the trailer is anything like this new image.
