There’s something interesting going on with these new images from Alien: Covenant, both of which were delivered with a series of numbers. They might not mean anything, but it seems unlikely that 20th Century Fox’s PR department would send images out with generic file numbers attached. While you puzzle over what these numbers mean (enjoy your traumatic LOST flashbacks), James Franco has basically confirmed his role in Ridley Scott’s new Alien prequel — just don’t expect him to reveal any specific details.

In addition, a handful of newly-leaked set photos have arrived online, revealing some intriguing — though seemingly not too spoiler-y — details about Ridley Scott’s latest Alien prequel. It's arguably the point upon which the entirety of Ridley Scott's sci-fi magnum opus Blade Runner hinges: is Rick Deckard, the assassin played by a stony Harrison Ford, one of the very androids he sets out to destroy? The film poses all manner of questions about being and selfhood, and the answers a viewer takes away from the film depend almost entirely on the read of that central mystery. Ridley Scott has stated in no uncertain terms that Deckard was a replicant all along, but plenty of fans (including, at one point, Harrison Ford) have chosen to rule Deckard as human or instead accept the unknowability of it all.

Not too long ago it was rumored that Alien: Covenant will feature not one, but two versions of the synthetic robot played by Michael Fassbender. In a new interview, the actor himself confirms that not only will he reprise the role of mischievous, realistic droid David in the Prometheus sequel / Alien prequel, but that he’ll also be playing an identical synthetic character. Two Fass-bots in one film! These are truly blessed times.

Villeneuve is currently in production on Blade Runner 2, which hits theaters in 2017 and stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. In a new interview, the director reveals an interesting piece of info about his sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, and talks about the other major sci-fi project he’d like to tackle.
