This is what happens any time you play a superhero in a major comic book franchise: No matter the movie that you are trying to promote, you’ll have to answer a handful of questions about the superhero blockbuster that you eventually are going to film (even though cameras don’t roll for months, at the earliest).
Take Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in Marvel’s string of popcorn thrillers. He’s trying to talk to the media about ‘The Iceman,’ a serial-killer-hitman drama that he and Michael Shannon brought to the Toronto International Film Festival. But instead, he has to spend time talking to outlets about his Marvel future. And Evans talks. To his credit, he knows where his bread is being buttered these days. Movies like ‘The Avengers’ and the upcoming 'Captain America 2' allow him to do as many ‘Iceman’ movies as he’ll want for the foreseeable future.
Thanos (aka the most highly-anticipated villain in superhero movie history thanks to his minute-long cameo in 'The Avengers') is about to be a busy guy. Undoubtedly the main baddie in 'The Avengers 2,' the Mad Titan could end up appearing on the big screen before then; perhaps in 2014's 'Guardian of the Galaxy.' Find out what Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is willing to reveal after the jump.
All the non-comic book lovers were scratching their heads at the end of 'The Avengers' when an image of the Mad Titan Thanos popped up in a bonus scene after the credits. Now, this big guy is the only thing anyone's talking about when on the subject of 'The Avengers 2.' We all assumed that moment was Joss Whedon's unofficial statement that Thanos would be our new villain in the sequel, but has it been made official? And what about the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movie? Will Thanos be in that too?
Following the smash success of 'The Avengers,' writer and director Joss Whedon has instantly become Marvel's golden goose. Whedon is now overseeing what the studio calls "Phase 2," and in a recent interview he divulged some details on what that means and where he'd like to go with 'The Avengers 2.'
So far most of our information, at least in regards to the latter, comes from the comics -- Thanos is a member of The Eternals, a group of god-like beings with immense power, far beyond that of humans. Thanos is referred to as the "Mad Titan" in the comics for attempting to demolish the entire human race with his Infinity Gauntlet, capable of manipulating, time, space, reality and even the human soul.
There's also talk that this entity will appear in the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' due to an analysis of the comic book plot on which the film is based. All that's left, really, is a high-profile actor to take on this role.
Say it's isn't so, Gwyneth! Ms. Paltrow says she might not be returning to play Pepper Potts in the sequel to 'The Avengers,' which means 'Iron Man 3' might be our last chance to embrace and appreciate the love and fantastic chemistry between Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. Bummer.
Prior to 'The Avengers,' Joss Whedon was a creative talent who was still having a hard time getting a TV series to stay on the air. Now, he's one of the biggest and most important directors in Hollywood as he preps 'Avengers 2' - one of the biggest sequels of all-time - and 'S.H.I.E.L.D' - one of the most highly-anticipated TV shows in history. Whedon talked about both of those projects and gave some updates on the upcoming Marvel universe.
Marvel fans have been contemplating like crazy what other superheroes may pop their heads in for 'The Avengers 2' a couple of years from now. Thankfully one fan came up with an absolutely brilliant idea for a beloved character that would perfectly fit in the Marvel movie universe.
'Guardians of the Galaxy' - Marvel's next original superhero movie - doesn't hit theaters until 2014 and little is known about the film except for what was revealed at Comic-Con - production art and the team's lineup. But now we might have an idea of the film's plot (and what it might mean for 'Avengers 2').
