Thanks to the new 'Hobbit' iOS app, a new series of images from the hotly anticipated film have migrated online for your viewing pleasure. Although most of them are character stills and portraits, one of them reveals where the first film of the trilogy will conclude. Spoilers lurk ahead for those who haven't read the original novel!
So we're exceptionally curious about 'The Hobbit' films now that Peter Jackson and company have decided to transform two pictures into three. We have no idea if this was a good decision, or just a chance to take advantage of audiences that fell in love with the first three films. What we do know are the titles of the trilogy and their release dates.
Every time there's a new advance in cinema tech, it often comes at a price. In most cases that price is directly transferred onto the viewer. Those fearing that seeing 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' in its original 48fps frame rate would have to drop more cash on their tickets can breath a sigh of relief. Warner Brothers isn't charging more... yet.
Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. introduced 'The Hobbit' to CinemaCon this year with a 48 frames-per-second version that didn't go over too well with many who were present for the convention. Now comes word that Warner Bros. will do a limited release for the 48 FPS version.
What are we to make of 'The Hobbit'? Or, rather, what are we to make of the upcoming 'The Hobbit' trilogy, which will extend JRR Tolkien's three hundred page book into a presumably nine hour experience comparable to the 'Lord of the Rings' films in scope? Although everyone has an opinion (because this is the internet), we can at least all agree that that we're all pretty excited to see what Peter Jackson and his team of geniuses will deliver. To further whet your appetite, a slightly revised version of the trailer for the first film 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' has made its way online.
Now that we know Peter Jackson plans on diving his upcoming adaptation of ‘The Hobbit’ into three distinct chapters, fans are going to want to grab a pair of nerdy unique 3D glasses that no doubt will contribute to the wondrous experience of venturing back to Middle Earth again and again (and again). RealD 3D has you covered.
As was previously rumored, director Peter Jackson officially announced this morning that 'The Hobbit' would be a trilogy and a third film will be released. Full details below:
While you were getting pumped about the Olympics (yeah, no one does this), we were reporting on the week's most ridiculous news. From a 'Battle Royale' TV series on -- wait for it -- the CW to Martin Scorsese trying to convince us he uses Siri, we've got a breakdown of the worst and most absurd news from this week, in case you weren't paying attention.
Though we're still not sure if we're getting just two movies or three, the drumbeat for the December release of the first Hobbit film 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' is steadily increasing, and there's new photos of Gollum that have hit.
It's safe to say that we pretty much all loved Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings' movie trilogy, which grossed about $3 billion in worldwide sales during their 2001-2003 releases. Now it looks like Warner Bros. is seeking to achieve the same results with the upcoming 'Hobbit' movie adaptation -- or should we say, adaptations -- as it's looking to become a movie trilogy.
