Showtime may be keeping secrets on its Twin Peaks revival, but even the original series managed to hide the famous Diane that Kyle MacLachlan’s Coop seemed to always record messages for. Now, the obscure figure may finally step into the light, as Laura Dern joins the series for a major role.

Officially speaking, Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival has only been willing to confirm Kyle MacLachlan’s return as Agent Dale Cooper, though who would doubt David Lynch to re-gather the iconic cast? Coop may be on his toes once more, now that Sherilyn Fenn has seemingly set her return as the devilish Audrey Horne.

Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival looked touch and go there for a bit, nearly losing series creator David Lynch to budgetary disputes, ultimately returning twice the size, and pushing a premiere to 2017. Now, Showtime boss David Nevins clarifies the “moment of confusion” behind the schism, as well that he and Lynch will at least consider an “all-at-once” style release.

Increasingly rare (and needed) these days, a veil of secrecy has been cast over production of Showtime’s big Twin Peaks revival, now scheduled for 2017 after an episode expansion. David Lynch isn’t keen to show footage anytime soon, but our first teaser for the revived drama teases a frightening return to the famous Washington landscape.

Yesterday saw Twin Peaks fans denied a 2016 cup of coffee with news that Showtime had officially pushed its revival to 2017, but the delay might be worth the wait to return additional alum. Miguel Ferrer is the latest original Twin Peaks star heading back into town for David Lynch’s revival, even as Showtime attempts to keep everything under wraps.

Hateful Eight star Jennifer Jason Leigh is the latest confirmed for our new Twin Peaks, with former David Lynch collaborator Naomi Watts also circling a role.

Secrecy surrounding Showtime’s Twin Peaks has made it difficult to discern what original cast members might return, and who might end up recast when the new iteration debuts in either 2016 or 2017. At the very least, it seems Shelly Johnson will be at the ready with some cherry pie, now that Mädchen Amick has begun teasing her Twin Peaks return.

Most of Showtime’s Twin Peaks has remained under wraps, per creator David Lynch’s wishes, but already our first major casualty of the revival may have arrived. Michael Ontkean has declined to reprise his role as Twin Peaks sheriff Harry S. Truman, and Robert Forster may step into the role.

The mystery surrounding Twin Peaks extends to the Showtime cast itself, as despite at least three major additions, we don’t yet know the significance of any new roles, or plot. Said mystery deepens now that Peter Sarsgaard has joined the cast in an important role, and … well, we’ll always have coffee.
