Finally no longer dumping the announcement at 5:30 A.M. PT, while half the critical populace sweat through Comic-Con, the 2015 Emmy nominations are here! A few major surprises and omissions, as well as some well-deserved chances at the gold, but who's up for at 2015, as presented by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg? Let's find out!
Game of Thrones wasn’t the only HBO series to bid a temporary farewell last night, as both Veep and Silicon Valley also closed out the current season, the former of which facing a game of thrones all its own. Now, with Selina’s presidential future in doubt, creator Armando Iannucci shares the reason for leaving the series behind after Season 4, and what the Meyer administration might bring next.
Timothy Simons is one of the standout supporting players on HBO’s Veep — as Jonah Ryan, he’s an obnoxious narcissist and relentless weasel who has somehow been able to continuously wiggle his way into various White House positions. Almost everything that comes out of Jonah’s mouth is astoundingly, hilariously terrible, making him the kind of character you really love to hate. We had a chance to talk to Simons about Jonah’s evolution in Season 3, his sexual harassment problem and what would happen if the Veep characters were on Game of Thrones.
Going into its fourth and most anticipated premiere yet, HBO’s Veep suffered a setback last week with the announcement that creator Armando Iannucci would leave the series behind in advance of Season 5, despite informally confirming that the Emmy-winning Julia Louis-Dreyfus political comedy would return for 2016. Now, Silicon Valley joins Veep with an official vote of confidence from HBO through Seasons 5 and 3, respectively.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus should be celebrating this weekend, as Veep Season 4 launches Selina Meyer to the highest office of the White House, but HBO may have pulled the festivity’s plug. Series creator and showrunner Armando Iannucci will resign his Veep office in advance of Season 5, while the network has already found a replacement.
Game of Thrones isn’t the only HBO hit returning on Sunday, April 12, as Veep’s Selina Meyer will join House of Cards’ Frank Underwood as the latest to be thrust into the United States Presidency. See what fresh hell the political world wreaks on Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the first full trailer for Veep Season 4!
