It truly is a wonderful time to be a fan of 'The Walking Dead.'  Not only will AMC preview the show's third season this weekend in advance of the Comic-Con 2012 panel, but fans can put themselves inside the world of 'The Walking Dead' in Telltale Games' episodic video game.  What better way to complement our fandom then, than with yet a second video game, based on the AMC series?  So, what's different about the new game, and when can we play it?

Thanks to IGN, we now have confirmation that Activision is plotting its own video game based on 'The Walking Dead,' completely independent of the comic-based Telltale games effort.  Activision's rendition of 'The Walking Dead' will base its game-play on the AMC TV series, following brothers Daryl and Merle Dixon prior to arriving at the Atlanta campsite from season 1 of the cult zombie drama.

A first-person shooter, Activision and Terminal Reality's 'The Walking Dead' will take Daryl and Merle on a  “haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.  No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world.”

Players will control Daryl Dixon, either stealthily avoiding detection from the hordes of walkers, or fighting them.  Supplies will be difficult to come by, forcing players to carefully manage food, ammunition and other necessities.  Daryl will encounter “a slew of other characters” with mixed intentions, and deciding whether or not to let them accompany you “represents just some of the major decisions that will constantly be made while fighting to survive.”

'The Walking Dead' will hit stores at some point in 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.  Check out the official website here, the announcement teaser below, and tell us in the comments what you think!
