Earlier today we heard that Michael Bay's new Starz pirate drama 'Black Sails' had officially set its 2014 premiere, and now Bay's other nautical drama has some good news of its own. TNT has officially greenlit apocalyptic naval thriller 'The Last Ship' to a 10-episode series, giving our first look at Eric Dane/Adam Baldwin drama in the process! See 'The Last Ship' in action inside!

Months ago we heard the intriguing news that TNT had begun development of post-apocalylptic Navy drama 'The Last Ship,' an adaptation of the William Brinkley novel to be produced by the explosion master himself, Michael Bay. The pilot episode boasted an impressive cast consisting of ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ cast-off Eric Dane, 'Firefly' and 'Chuck' star Adam Baldwin (replacing 'LOST's' Titus Welliver) and the lovely Rhona Mitra, and now there's good news!

TNT has officially ordered 'The Last Ship' to a series of 10 episodes, set to air sometime in 2014. The TNT drama takes its base from Brinkley's novel, which sees a global catastrophe devastating the Earth and leaving the crew of a Naval destroyer among its only survivors. Baldwin will play Mike Slattery, second in command to Captain Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) on board the USS Nathan James, while Mitra plays a research scientist investigating the virus that caused the Earth's devastation.

"'The Last Ship' has all the elements of a big Hollywood blockbuster, from its epic storytelling to its top-notch cast headed by the perfect leading man, Eric Dane," says TNT president Michael Wright. "Michael Bay and his fellow executive producers have shaped William Brinkley's story and characters into an exceptional drama full of action, suspense, tragedy and triumph. 'The Last Ship' is smart, fun television that takes you on a great ride."

But wait, there's more! Check out TNT's first trailer for 'The Last Ship' below, and tell us in the comments if you'll check out the new series next year!
