There’s little way around it; last night’s True Detective finale “Omega Station” cemented Season 2 as the tarnish on a once-bright franchise, dimming its luster in ways surely to be analyzed and over-analyzed for months to come. And hey, as long as we’re laughing at True Detective’s attempts to take itself seriously, why not throw some Star Wars into the opening titles?

A new video mashup from Star Wars Minute re-imagines the True Detective credits (Season 1, thank the Yellow King) with all your favorite Star Wars characters for a pretty spot-on recreation. There’s a few rough patches, and some more suggestive imagery of the original with no Star Wars equivalent, but it’s still a lovely and unexpected idea.

After all, whether you’re chasing green-eared spaghetti monsters through the bowels of Carcosa, or shooting Greedo-eared mobsters through a wretched hive of scum and villainy, it’s all one ghetto, man. One giant gutter in outer space.

You can check out the True Detective credits mashed with Star Wars above, as well as a side-by-side comparison below.
