A Venn diagram of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and 30 Rock would burst at the middle, though we’ve never necessarily seen much actual crossover. Season 3 of the Netflix comedy might have added another 30 Rock star to its ranks, potentially even as their old character, though the appearance had to be cut for time.

Speaking on Season 3 from the Tribeca Film Festival (h/t UPROXX), creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock covered a wide variety of topics, among them the minimization of a certain New Yorker’s outcome in the 2016 election. More of a loss, however, is that Fey revealed 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer very nearly appeared in Season 3 (in a decidedly Kenneth-like capacity), but couldn’t make the scheduling work:

I said, ‘Would you want to come down and just put on your weird ’70s suit like you’re still the president of NBC and just walk through the shot?’ He had like a 30 minute break from this play and he came down and got all suited up and we just didn’t get it in time.

Naturally, McBrayer is far from the first 30 Rock alum to resurface on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (which itself already features Jane Krakowski in the cast). Fey has played two distinct roles, while Titus Burgess previously recurred on the NBC sitcom as D’Fwan. There’s no explicit guarantee that McBrayer’s role would have been Kenneth the Page (now NBC president), but the similarity is hard to overlook.

Other guest stars for the season include Laura Dern, Daveed Diggs, Rachel Dratch, Ray Liotta, Andrea Martin and Maya Rudolph, with returning players Fred Armisen, Anna Camp, Mike Carlsen, Josh Charles, David Cross, Jon Hamm and Amy Sedaris.

In the meantime, watch the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 trailer below, and stay tuned for more from the May 19 premiere.
