It's been a super busy news week in the world of superheroes, with Marvel and Warner Bros. seemingly courting a ton of actors for roles this week. But don't leave Fox out of the mix: they've got some big plans for 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' and those plans involve landing someone for the role of the titular villain. Could that someone be Tom Hardy?

Previously we reported on a story from The Wrap regarding the latest in a series of 'Doctor Strange' casting updates, and buried in that story was a little nugget about Tom Hardy. The actor's name had previously been floated for the leading role in 'Doctor Strange,' but now he's being sought for a role in WB's 'Suicide Squad,' which is being helmed by 'Fury' director David Ayer.

Also on the table: Fox wants Tom Hardy to play the role of the hugely devastating villain Apocalypse in 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' Bryan Singer's upcoming sequel to 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' It's not as if Hardy is averse to superhero films, given his role as Bane in Chris Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises' -- but Hardy had also worked with Nolan previously on 'Inception.' More recently, Hardy has been selecting his roles more carefully, so it will be interesting to see which project he chooses ... if he chooses either of these at all.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' is set for a May 18, 2016 release, while 'Suicide Squad' is set to be released on August 5, 2016.
