When The Omen sequel series was first announced, the plan was for Damien to premiere on Lifetime, where he would presumably help keep The Lizzie Borden Chronicles company. Recently, Damien moved over to Lifetime’s partner network, A&E, which seems like a better fit for the horror series alongside Bates Motel and The Returned. To celebrate the impending return of the spawn of satan, A&E has debuted the first, brief teaser for Damien, promising a much more grown-up little devil.

The first Damien teaser skews toward the abstract, utilizing super-imposed, barking Rottweiler heads (the most satan-y of dogs, as we all know) along with a woman’s voiceover, promising that Damien will eventually remember everything, as she welcomes him back home.

Damien follows a grown-up version of the murderous child from the 1976 horror classic The Omen. As an adult, Damien Thorn is now a world-renowned war photographer, who satisfies his thirst for violence by traveling to dangerous locations and putting himself in harm’s way. But his career choice isn’t merely about the adrenaline rush — Damien is also running from the terrifying truth about himself, evading the reason why death always seems to follow him around. On his 30th birthday, Damien remembers everything, and is faced with the stunning revelation that he is destined to become the Antichrist.

There’s an intentionally Hannibal-esque vibe about that teaser, and it appears that the series is chasing a similar audience. Can Damien hold a candle to the cinematic, gory beauty of NBC’s horror series?

Damien stars Bradley James (iZombie, Merlin) as Damien Thorn, Barbara Hershey, Omid Abtahi and Megalyn Echikunwoke, and will arrive on A&E sometime this year.
