‘Aquaman’ to Reunite Director James Wan With ‘The Conjuring 2’ Writer

Warner Bros.’ DC movie universe is beginning to really take shape, with Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set to introduce us to a couple of the new heroes in the franchise, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. James Wan has been tapped to helm the aquatic hero’s solo movie, which will be scripted by a writer with whom Wan is already quite familiar.

THR reports that WB has hired David Leslie Johnson to write the Aquaman solo movie for James Wan. Johnson previously wrote the screenplay for Wan’s sequel to The Conjuring, which is reportedly titled The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. Wan is currently directing the sequel to his horror hit following a brief departure from the genre to direct Furious 7.

While Universal was unable to convince Wan to return for Fast and Furious 8, WB managed to snag the genre-friendly director for their ambitious Aquaman film. It was previously reported that WB had set Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300) to write separate, competing scripts for Aquaman, so it’s unclear if Johnson will be writing his own competing screenplay, or working from an existing draft (or consolidated drafts).

Johnson previously wrote screenplays for Orphan and Wrath of the Titans, and has written for The Walking Dead.

Jason Momoa is set to make his first appearance as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016. The Aquaman solo movie hits theaters on July 27, 2018.
