There’s been a lot of uncertainty about the Man of Steel sequel — Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was rumored to be involved, but then more rumors started circulating suggesting that Warner Bros. has put Man of Steel 2 on hold for the time being, and the film doesn’t seem to have a place on the studio’s DC film schedule. According to Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is basically a Man of Steel sequel, so you don’t need to really worry about it.

While continuing his ongoing Doritos Crash the Super Bowl promotional tour (yeah…that), Snyder spoke to Canoe about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and explained that he sees it as a Man of Steel sequel:

I think in a way ‘Batman v Superman’ is ‘Man of Steel 2.’ ‘Justice League’ is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be.

Snyder went on to reiterate that his Batman v Superman is about the “mythology” of the two superheroes, and said that he’s trying to figure out “the why” of the Justice League, which he’s adapting into two films for WB.

While it’s not clear when — or if — we’ll get a new Man of Steel standalone movie, Henry Cavill’s Superman will play an integral role in the Justice League movies. Meanwhile, George Miller has also been rumored for the Justice League Dark movie that Guillermo del Toro was previously involved in developing.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
