Buffy the Vampire Slayer got another turn in that vampire-dusting sun with the recent 20th anniversary, and all those old romances remain as divisive as ever. That said, when Sarah Michelle Gellar plays “marry, shag, kill” with the Buffy trio of Angel, Spike and Xander … well, the outcome probably isn’t going to shock you.

Gellar tackled the fan question during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, though it isn’t immediately clear if the former Buffy star meant to answer from a character perspective, or her own. Either way, poor Xander gets exactly the short end of the stick you’d predict, though Gellar wasn’t too pleased about it.

Also worth noting, Gellar clarified the absences of both Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) and Eliza Dushku (Faith) from the recent Entertainment Weekly cover shoot, noting that the former was too busy rehearsing a play in London. Why Dushku didn’t make (or wasn’t asked to return for) the reunion is above Gellar’s pay grade, though it’s a fair question, given the presence of shorter-lived Buffy stars like Seth Green.

In either case, here’s to another twenty years of debating Spike vs. Angel, and as always, dumping on poor Xander.
