CW Sets ‘Freedom Fighters: The Ray’ DC Series, Will Cast for Live-Action
Just as The CW’s Arrow-verse births a new Vixen, so too is her comic progenitor about to have some company. The CW confirms that CW Seed will launch a new animated series set within the universe, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, featuring a gay lead with a voice to be cast for eventual live-action debut.
Debuting in 2017, Freedom Fighters: The Ray will follow the title character of a Golden Age hero who can manipulate, and become light for various purposes. The CW also confirms that the title character will be represented as gay, while offering the below description:
Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.
As with Megalyn E.K., the role will be cast in mind for an eventual live-action debut. Vixen Season 2, meanwhile, will premiere in fall 2016.
