‘MADtv’ Revival on at The CW, Original Cast to Host New Episodes
The 20-year anniversary of MADtv brought cast members out of the woodwork for a CW reunion special, and we might have seen the next step coming. The series itself will officially return for eight new CW episodes, with original cast members eyed to host new comedians for each new installment.
The CW confirms that MADtv will return for eight new primetime episodes, though the press release didn’t offer a conclusive timetable for the new iteration’s premiere. This time out, each episode will feature one of the original cast members hosting, while the actual ensemble will feature “up-and-coming new comedy voices.”
As to who might pitch in to host, there’s anyone from a pool of Suicide Squad star Ike Barinholtz, Family Guy voice Alex Borstein, Parks and Recreation favorite Mo Collins, Crista Flanagan, Anjelah Johnson, Nicole Randall Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, Futurama favorite Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, Bobby Lee, Michael McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Eric Price, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, Stephanie Weir and Debra Wilson, among others.
Also worth noting, The CW made 75 MADtv episodes available to stream on CW Seed as of January 5, to offer a taste of the series.. For those unfamiliar, MADtv began in 1995, running over 300 episodes until 2009, and winning five Emmys over its tenure.
The CW will likely have more details toward the May upfronts, but will MADtv on The CW live up to the original?
