With fan fervor for 'Doctor Who' at an all time high after last night's climactic season finale "The Name of the Doctor," and 50th anniversary and Christmas specials to come, few doubted that the good Doctor would return for an eight season. Less certain was the involvement of showrunner Steven Moffat, but now the BBC has confirmed both to return in 2014! Get the latest on future 'Doctor Who' inside!

If you're anything like us, you're still scratching your head over 'Doctor Who's season 7 finale "The Name of the Doctor," which resolved the mystery of Clara Oswin Oswald's "impossible" status and the real significance of the Time Lord's "name" as well. Thankfully, one bit of external confusion has abated, as the BBC has both confirmed an eighth season of 'Doctor Who' for 2014, with showrunner Steven Moffat behind the helm!

We’re delighted to confirm a new series of Doctor Who has been commissioned and the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, has revealed he’s already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.

But way before that hits our screens we have a huge amount to look forward to. Your calendars should already have a big red circle around 23 November because that’s when the TARDIS returns in the frankly Earth-shattering adventure that celebrates half a century of Doctor Who. This 3D special stars Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman with David Tennant and John Hurt, seen briefly at the end of The Name of the Doctor. Billie Piper returns alongside Jemma Redgrave, Joanna Page… and the Zygons!

Naturally, little else (including the cast) of the eighth season has been revealed, given that "big plans" have been put in place, and the ever-shifting secrecy of the long-running BBC series. Matt Smith seemingly confirmed that he'd return to the title role, but things could get awful timey-wimey between now and 2014.

What say you? Were you satisfied by the mysteries solved by "The Name of the Doctor?" Where do you think the upcoming anniversary special, and 2014 will take the Time Lord? Watch the latest preview video below, and give us your predictions in the comments!
