Good news for 'Falling Skies' fans: TNT is on a hot streak this summer with the second season of the Spielberg-produced sci-fi actioner, along with its new programming and the return of 'Dallas,' which means renewal seems imminent.  But when can we expect an official announcement on the fate of 'Falling Skies?'

With its panel at Comic-Con 2012 only days away, fans of TNT's 'Falling Skies' will be thrilled to know that a renewal for season 3 seems likely.  Variety believes that an official announcement is due any day now, what with TNT already having renewed 'Dallas' and 'Rizzoli & Isles.'  Currently halfway through its second season, the back-to-back premiere episodes on June 17 drew 4.5 million viewers in its first viewing and 5.5 million when live-plus-3 numbers are included.

For those unfamiliar with the series, ‘Falling Skies’ follows former history professor Tom Mason (Noah Wyle)  as one of the leaders of a human resistance force desperately struggling to fight back and survive in the aftermath of an alien invasion that killed off 90% of the planet’s population.  In addition to protecting his children, one of whom spent time under the aliens’ thrall, Tom maintains a close relationship with the resistance’s doctor Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood), as well as charismatic rogue John Pope (Colin Cunningham) and military leader Captain Daniel Weaver (Will Patton).

Hopefully we'll learn more when 'Falling Skies' holds its Comic-Con 2012 panel Friday, July 13, at 4:30 p.m. in room 6BCF of the San Diego Convention Center, but in the meantime what say you?  Are you happy to have 'Falling Skies' back for another year, or are you waiting on the official announcement?  Sound off in the comments below!
