First ‘Elysium’ TV Spot Offers Up New Footage

Matt Damon is fighting the good fight for the futuristic 99% in 'Elysium,' the latest ambitious sci-fi adventure from 'District 9' director Neill Blomkamp. The first TV spot for the summer  release has gone online, so what are you waiting for?!

The 30-second spot, coming at us via Comic Book Movie, offers up some new (admittedly brief) footage from the Sony release, which looks to add a layer of political subtext to the sci-fi action, not unlike Blomkamp's debut effort. We've seen some of the film, and that small sample got us rather excited about the intricate world Blomkamp has crafted.

Co-starring Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley and Alice Braga, 'Elysium' opens on August 9. Here's the official synopsis:

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the chance to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission -- one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces -- but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
