First Look: Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix

The people of Dublin, Ireland received quite the treat yesterday when musician Andre 3000 (real name: Andre Benjamin) was filming scenes for 'All Is By My Side,' in which he plays the late rock legend Jimi Hendrix.

Andre was in town to film the biopic on the late Hendrix and was spotted around town with a poofy afro (a wig, maybe?) and era-appropriate clothing. In the film, Andre portrays Hendrix during the period when he was preparing to record his debut album, "Are You Experienced?" and living in London.

It's unknown whether the film will feature actual songs by Hendrix, as the late rocker's estate has recently denied all requests to do so. Perhaps the estate will have a change of heart once filming is complete and they are able to view the end result.

A hugely influential musician, Hendrix passed away just three short years after the release of his debut album. His skills with the electric guitar were incomparable -- so much so that Hendrix released a startling ten albums posthumously. In those three years Hendrix  was able to achieve so much -- from playing the Monterey Pop Festival to headlining the infamous 1969 Woodstock Festival.
