A Jimi Hendrix biopic has been around for years and years and has a number of actors attached to starring as the iconic rocker. Terrence Howard, Laurence Fishburne, Lenny Kravitz and even LL Cool J were all at one point interested and/or attached in starring as Hendrix. But after along battle over film rights, 'All Is By My Side' is set to begin filming this summer in Ireland with Outkast leader Andre 3000 starring as Jimi.

Andre (also known as Andre Benjamin) has been attached to the film since 2008 but numerous legal wranglings with the Hendrix estate have put the film on hold.  In 2011, it looked to be the final nail in the coffin of the Hendrix biopic when the estate issued a press release stating that "no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation."  So how'd they finally get the go ahead?

Well it turns out they might not have.

The new biopic will take place in 1966 before Jimi broke big. The film will follow his discovery in a New York City club and the eventual launch of his career. So it's entirely possible that the filmmakers, unable to get approval to Hendrix copyrights, simply rewrote the script to focus on a time period when Hendrix hadn't even yet recorded "Are You Experienced?"

John Ridley, who wrote this year's George Lucas film 'Red Tails,' wrote the script and is planning on making his feature directorial debut with the project.

How do you feel about Andre 3000 playing Hendrix? If not him, who else could play the part? How do you feel about a Hendrix biopic in the first place?
